What training do you have in couple's therapy?

Dr. Sala has completed specialized 2 Training in Gottman Methods Couple Therapy and Relational Life Therapy. You can read more about RLT in a recent NY Times article.

What is your treatment approach?

Our approach utilizes an integrative style. We mainly integrate Relational Life Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy. Relational Life Therapy works by first reconnecting people to themselves and then helping the reconnect to their relationship. Gottman Method Couples Therapy focuses on strengthening the couples relationship in friendship, conflict management, and shared meaning. The Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy assumes that relationship problems result not just from the actions and inactions of partners but also from their emotional reactivity to each other's behavior. Research shows that almost two-thirds of couples improve after these treatment approaches. You can make concrete changes to accommodate the needs of your partner and show greater emotional acceptance of one another. By working through current issues, you can begin to understand how they may be part of a bigger pattern in the relationship. You can learn how your past has shaped your present behaviors in the relationship.
