Therapy Approach

My top priority is to make our therapeutic relationship client-centered and collaborative, which means that we will work together to determine what change, growth, and healing would be most personally meaningful to you. I believe that a therapist’s role is not to dictate or prescribe solutions, but to engage you in a shared process where together we learn about the concerns leading you to seek help. To this end, my approach is warm, genuine and grounded in an acceptance and welcoming of you, your story, and all of its nuances and complexities. As you share about yourself, over time we will gain an ever-expanding understanding of the dynamics leading to the unhelpful thinking, unhealthy actions, or overwhelming feelings getting in your way. By looking inward, we can identify and gain awareness of these patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting that you have come by honestly, but are no longer serving you. This understanding and building awareness allows for the possibility of change - for you to effect change in your life and make progress towards your goals.

Though my clinical approach is grounded in psychodynamic theories, it is more eclectic than one-dimensional. We may also take time to work together on building skills and strategies. I have training and experience in practicing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), mindfulness approaches, and other cognitive-behavioral models.
