Other Medical Conditions

Health and Medical Condition Treatment in Greenwich, Darien, Westport, Westchester, and Surrounding Areas in Connecticut and New York

At Sala Psychology, we understand the profound impact that health and medical conditions can have on your mental well-being.   Whether navigating the complexities of a cancer diagnosis, coping with a terminal illness, or managing diabetes,  our therapists provide evidence-based interventions.

Research has shown that our mental health has a strong impact on our physical health, and vice-versa. We provide a variety of evidence-based interventions grounded in CBT for many health conditions, while also incorporating ACT and mindfulness-based strategies. We will work together to understand the factors that may influence your condition, learn coping strategies, improve health behaviors, improve stress management, and change unhelpful beliefs related to your health.

What medical conditions do you work with?

Research has shown that our psychological health can have a strong impact on our physical health and well being, and vice versa. We work with individuals adjusting to several different types of medical conditions, including but not limited to, diabetes, hypertension, IBS, and high blood pressure, providing health psychology services.

How do I know if I need to talk to a psychologist?

If you have a medical condition and are experiencing difficulties adjusting to a new or changing medical condition, are worried about your condition, have trouble staying consistent with your medical treatment, feel that your symptoms and stress level impact each other, and/or have difficulty maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you may benefit from speaking to a psychologist.

How can you help me?

We use CBT. We will teach you effective strategies for living with and managing your condition. We will work with you to set clear lifestyle goals to enhance your quality of life and monitor these behaviors. We will also help you reframe unhelpful thought patterns. We will also explore what brings your life value and meaning and how you can lived a valued and meaningful life despite your medical condition.

What kind of experience do you have?

Drs. Sala and Roos have extensive training in health psychology and a strong background on the intersection of physical and mental health, including a health psychology internship at the Connecticut VA and Yale University, respectively.
