CBT for Insomnia in Greenwich, Darien, Westport, Westchester, and Surrounding Areas in Connecticut and New York

What is insomnia? Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder that can manifest itself with having a difficult time falling asleep, staying asleep and/or with early morning wake-ups. People with insomnia often do not feel refreshed after waking up and spend a lot of time lying awake before they are able to fall asleep.

How do you treat insomnia? Our approach is cognitive behavioral and also incorporates mindfulness, and is highly effective. Research has shown that  50-75% of patients attain clinically significant improvement after a short-course of CBT, and most continue to have improved sleep after treatment ends. We will work with you to address and/or disengage from unhelpful thoughts about sleep, adjust habits that contribute to your insomnia, help you set a sleep schedule, help you relax, and help you decrease anxiety/arousal when attempting to go to bed. We will give you strategies on what to do in the middle of the night when you can't sleep. We will also help you identify and address other factors that may be contributing to your insomnia, such as caffeine overuse, lack of exercise or inappropriately timed exercise, depression, stress, and anxiety.
