How common is anxiety in children? Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health conditions in youth, with between 10-13% of kids struggling with anxiety. 

How does anxiety in children look like? Anxiety in children can take many forms. Some children have fears of specific things or animals (e.g., heights, crowds, snakes). Others fear situations like being separated from a parent or social situations. Others struggle with worry more generally. And  others struggle with physical symptoms (e.g., stomach ache, fast heart beat).

How do you treat anxiety in children? Dr. Sala uses the Coping Cat program for anxiety with children, which is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The program has excellent research support. Dr. Sala will teach your child to recognize symptoms of anxiety, reframe anxious thoughts, relaxation strategies, and various other CBT strategies.
