Why does my child have anxiety?

It is hard to know exactly why your child may experience anxiety. Many factors are often at play, including genetics, temperament, stress, trauma, parent anxiety/depression, and social difficulties

How does anxiety in children look like?

Anxiety in children can take many forms. Some children have fears of specific things or animals (e.g., heights, crowds, snakes, dogs, etc). Others fear situations like being separated from a parent or social situations. Others struggle with worry more generally (e.g., about school, parents health, their health, family finances, etc.) And others struggle with physical symptoms (e.g., stomach ache, fast heart beat) or difficulties with sleep and/or eating. Anxiety can sometimes manifest itself as irritability or anger in children.
