PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT APPROACHES
Serving Greenwich, Darien, Westport, Westchester, and Surrounding Areas in Connecticut and New York
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)
We will work together to help you reframe patterns of unhelpful thinking into more helpful thoughts. We will also work to reduce problematic behaviors and replace them with more adaptive behaviors. Changing your thoughts and behaviors will improve your mood, decrease anxiety, and help with other psychological issues.
DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)
We will work with you on building four skills:
2. Interpersonal effectiveness
3. Distress tolerance
4. Emotion regulation
ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)
We will give you the tools to stop attempting to control your internal experiences. We will teach you how to practice mindfulness. We will also work with you to change your reaction to your thoughts and feelings. You will learn to accept and defuse from problematic thoughts and feelings, and instead focus on living in accordance to your personal values.
We will help you gradually and systematically confront your fears and face anxiety-provoking situations that you have been avoiding via exposures. By doing exposures, you will learn that feared consequences are unlikely to come true and that your anxiety will eventually go down even after facing anxiety-provoking situations.
We will work with you to help you become more aware of the present moment and separate yourself from your thoughts and emotions, giving you the tools to combat various psychological symptoms as they arise.
COGNITIVE PROCESSING THERAPY
We use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to treat PTSD. CPT is a short-term treatment for PTSD that has decades of research support. It focuses initially on the question of why the trauma occurred and then the effects of the trauma on the your beliefs about yourself, others, and the world. A recent episode of This American Life is excellent in highlighting the CPT process.
