Couples Therapy in Greenwich CT

Couples Counseling in Greenwich, Darien, Westport, Westchester, and Surrounding Areas in Connecticut and New York

What kind of couples do you work with? We work with couples who are experiencing relationship distress, infidelity, adjustments/transitions (e.g., to a new job, new baby), difficulties with emotional or physical intimacy, difficulties managing intense emotions, and couples seeking relationship enhancement.

What is your treatment approach? Our approach utilizes an Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT) style, which assumes that relationship problems result not just from the actions and inactions of partners but also from their emotional reactivity to each other's behavior. Research shows that almost two-thirds of couples improve after IBCT. You can make concrete changes to accommodate the needs of your partner and show greater emotional acceptance of one another. By working through current issues, you can begin to understand how they may be part of a bigger pattern in the relationship. You can learn how your past has shaped your present behaviors in the relationship. We also integrate other techniques, such as Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

What is your training in couples therapy? Dr. Sala has pursued specialized training in couples therapy (including couples therapy workshops and supervision by couples therapy specialists) throughout her career, and has worked with many couples in her practice.
