What is chronic pain? There are numerous sources of chronic or persistent pain, such as chronic low back pain, back problems, headaches, and rheumatological conditions among many others. Chronic pain is often associated with decreased functionality, work loss, disability, and worse quality of life. Pain and disability are influenced not only by injury and structural abnormalities; but also by your psychological factors (e.g., thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, behavioral patterns, environment). These psychological factors can play critical roles in the management of the chronic pain, and can be addressed in therapy.

How can you help me manage my chronic pain? We use cognitive behavioral strategies as well as mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies to help you manage your chronic pain. We will work with you to adjust various lifestyle factors, including decreasing depression/anxiety, reframing unhelpful thoughts about pain, improving mood management, and increasing your engagement with hobbies and social life. We will also help you shift your expectations away from the elimination of pain to living as well as possible with pain.
